Himalayan zircons resurface in Sumatran arc volcanoes through sediment recycling

چکیده

Abstract Understanding the processes of subducted sediment recycling in subduction zones is vital to decipher Earth’s crust-mantle interactions. This study uses along-arc geochemical variations and zircon U-Pb-Hf-O isotopes Quaternary arc basalts andesites on Sumatra Island, Indonesia assess mode zones. The Hf-O inherited zircons near Toba Caldera indicate that some them were derived from terrigenous sediments mainly sourced (eastern) Himalaya. Hybridization with mantle also accounts for enriched Sr-Nd isotopic compositions volcanic rocks Caldera. Thermodynamic modeling indicates did not melt slab surface. Rather, evidence supports their formation as diapirs rise buoyantly through hot wedge contribute ~30 45% magma source Toba.

Recycling Evaluation of Mill Scale in Electric Arc Furnace

A considerable amount of mill scale is generated from steelmaking plants annually. Although some industries use it as raw material however, since it contains iron in the form of FeO, Fe2O3, and Fe3O4, it can be considered as a valuable metallurgical raw material for iron and steelmaking industry as well. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility, efficiency, and consequences o...

Clustering of arc volcanoes caused by temperature perturbations in the back-arc mantle

Clustering of arc volcanoes in subduction zones indicates along-arc variation in the physical condition of the underlying mantle where majority of arc magmas are generated. The sub-arc mantle is brought in from the back-arc largely by slab-driven mantle wedge flow. Dynamic processes in the back-arc, such as small-scale mantle convection, are likely to cause lateral variations in the back-arc ma...

Soil-sediment nutrient transport dynamics in a Himalayan watershed

Nutrient dynamics in the Bela watershed, Nepal were examined using a range of GIS budget modelling and field analysis techniques. The fertility status analysis showed that soil acidity, phosphorus availability, and lack of base cations were the key soil fertility issues. Nutrient budget calculations revealed significant annual phosphorus deficits for maize rota tions, but only minor deficits i...

24. Pb ISOTOPE RATIOS OF NORTH PACIFIC SEDIMENTS, SITES 881,883, AND 884: IMPLICATIONS FOR SEDIMENT RECYCLING IN THE KAMCHATKAN ARC

The Pb isotope ratios of 13 sediment samples, collected during Ocean Drilling Program Leg 145 at Sites 881, 883, and 884 in the North Pacific east of the Kamchatkan trench, were determined. The sediments were selected from continuously recovered cores and are representative of the range of sediment compositions recorded. The sediments analyzed are predominantly pelagic oozes, representing appro...
